Hugely in favor of this. Specifically what makes something a twitter afaict is that each utterance is a standalone object that can be amplified & quoted. So anything where comments/replies are stuck to top-level posts is not a twitter.

if twitter is determined to be called X now, and there are all these very similar sites cropping up, can we just refer to any microblogging text-based social media platform generically as "a twitter"?
as in, "I posted that update on three twitters last night"

Hugely in favor of this. Specifically what makes something a twitter afaict is that each utterance is a standalone object that can be amplified & quoted. So anything where comments/replies are stuck to top-level posts is not a twitter.

This is the way because it actually contributes to the decorporitization of language and turns "tweet" into a genericized word, which is an intrinsic linguistic good

singular "they" has existed for a long time but (at least in my dialect) was canonically only used for people whose names/identifies don't matter for the conversation
