Fingers crossed for me 😂 and for everyone applying. Nice that @sciencecharles.bsky.social gives this opportunity to restart the carrier after the (parental) break.

The best way to reconnect with colleagues after a year of parental leave is a seminar 🧬 🎤

Can you guess which group this fascinating plant belongs to? Its species name is ‘medusa,’ which I think is quite fitting.

Look at this rainbow hematite 🌈 🪨!
The collection of minerals of the National Museum in Prague is just amazing. We always spend more time there than I expect.

Alpine vegetation of Georgia is just incredible ❤️ 🌸

Lilium martagon from Slovakia. Did you know that it's toxic to cats?

How much do flowers heat up on sun ☀️? And which part of the light spectrum contributes the most? We will hopefully know soon 💡

Thank you GRC on Ecological and Evolutionary Genomics 2025. For the stimulating environment. For the diverse talks. And for being able to be fully involved, even with the baby company. Great job @samyeaman.bsky.social @chicascientifica.bsky.social for organizing such a great meeting 🧬 🌱 🐟 🦠

Beyond this essential storyline, you'll also read about Greenway et al.'s fascinating work on livebearers’ repeated adaptation to sulfidic springs 🐟 and my reflections on the scientific value of having a large number of model systems for studying repeated evolution. Enjoy!

When I got the offer to write a dispatch for Current Biology, I hesitated. Then I realised it’s the perfect chance to introduce people to the Bulgarian seer Baba Vanga! And that was reason enough to make it happen. 🧵 👇

Since I finally decided to properly move to Bluesky, I'm archiving here the link to my JMS prize talk from the Evolution 2024 in Montreal. Even after one year I feel very honored and grateful for the opportunity ❤️👇

4/5 Indeed, our analysis of studies of repeated adaptation shows that more recently diverged lineages exhibit higher gene reuse but the relationship becomes less clear at older divergence time scales: why?? (spoiler alert: we also discuss the 'why' in the paper)
July 17, 2025 at 10:32 PM
3/5 We propose a very intuitive trend: divergence time influences variation in gene reuse in repeated adaptation, as it drives the diversification of shared genetic variation, genome structure, and gene functions among lineages.

1/5 ✨Proud✨ to see our review with Katie Peichel as featured content in Trends_Ecol_Evo, with my beloved alpine lineages of Arabidopsis arenosa on the cover. Hope that you find it interesting! doi.org/10.1016/j.tree.2023.11.007

On my way to Ecological and Evolutionary Genomics GRC. Hiking to the venue through the mountains was the best decision (where else to practice my talk on repeated alpine adaptation 😁..) 🌄

Using photos of multiple pots to estimate germination rates. Once it's zoomed in, it looks doable. Any experience to share? 🌱

Have you ever seen variegated wild garlic? I have 😲. I wonder what kind of mutation might have caused that. 🔎

Flowers of the Ophrys orchid mimic female bees 🐝 to fool males into mating with the flowers. We found this particular species in Slovakia and it's not even sure how often it reproduces sexually. But nice try anyways 😜

My love among study systems, Arabidopsis arenosa, now flowering in Slovakia, in the centre of it's genetic diversity 🌱🌿 🔎

The joy of mendelian genetics: white alpine Arabidopsis arenosa made by crossing heterozygotes for my candidate pigmentation gene from a fully pink population.

Setting up an experiment in the mountains. Can't wait to see how many plants survive and if petal pigmentation 🤍 -> 💜 brings any advantage?
Any guesses/predictions❓🤔
