This will ensure best value by using evidence led approach to design the most appropriate long-term solution."

Rest assured, the success of the trial and determination of the long term solution is firmly on Amey’s agenda.
However, please be assured that we cannot consider full resurfacing until we have completed exhaustive trials.

Amey undertook approx. £400k of concrete repairs on the North and Southbound extents of the concrete section between Jan and Feb 2024 to alleviate transverse cracks developing into more significant structural defects (potholes).

with the third VCS scheduled for 5 June 2025, post winter season 2024. This proposal does not include for any intrusive testing of the carriageway.
January 30, 2025 at 4:01 PM
Amey shall continue to monitor and report any defects observed periodically, noting our route inspectors cover the bypass twice per week as part of their safety inspections (use of Vaisala Road AI),
January 30, 2025 at 4:01 PM
Amey highlighted that installation of the trials during winter months may also be contributory factors for the defects encountered to date, opposed to being directly related to failure of the trial systems.
January 30, 2025 at 4:01 PM
Amey previously highlighted that there was a risk that two winter periods was too short a timeframe for any significant conclusions to be drawn from defects recorded during this 2-year period.
January 30, 2025 at 4:01 PM
At a meeting on 31 July 2024, Amey and Transport Scotland jointly agreed to await a further winter period.

Overall, the trial areas are holding well post the second winter season (October 2023 to May 2024), the defects noted during the VCS (05/06/24) shall be subject to repair by Amey.

Amey's response,

"Amey’s overall position is that it is too early to make any decision on which of the three trials as being the favoured approach for the Bypass, due to limited service life.

This carries on from the work that I highlighted was ongoing in 2021. I regulalry raise the issue with the trial concrete surface with Amey and will continue to press for a better solution than we have at present.
