Those who live by the gryphon die by the gryphon?

I recall from Batman TAS, Batman admits that he's never seen "It's a Wonderful Life" because he could never get past the title

Without current context but knowing the series and the way the stadium background looks Mayan?

Stock phrase reaction to "Um, we just got teleported to a new time/place/world?" Reference to "The Wizard of Oz" (1939)

OK, so Japan does not have hummingbirds, but it has something that fits the same ecological niche, is about the size as one of the smaller hummingbird species, and even looks and moves kind of like a hummingbird.

The twist?
It's a hawkmoth.

Convergent evolution!

Ditto, but for books

It's a big reason why enchanters often overlap with artificers, because it's far safer to invest spells into items for later use than worry about what's in their pockets

Also, most tend to be basic humans or halflings (no base element), or else gnomes (working on a different paradigm)

While enchanters CAN cast off-the-cuff, it needs to be a spell they know well, and the material component serves as a touchstone for that

It's still a bad idea, since they get full backlash in the moment, but it's possible
November 27, 2025 at 2:57 AM
To get around things, enchanters set up spells in advance with rituals, bleeding the backlash off before the spell ever goes off

Rituals create a circuit for the spell, and the material component is like the switch or trigger to complete the circuit. Stronger spell, rarer component to complete

Enchanters are the deep end of occultism as access to power
No elemental affiliation, but thru deep study they've learned tricks to do what they want, even when it means conflicting elements (e.g. fire and water) in the same spell

Problem is, it's counter to reality, and reality enforces the rules

For my story setting, most of the magic-users are elementally aligned, so the main difference between arcane, divine, druidic, etc. is means of access

Most get one main and one secondary element, non-conflicting

But then there are the enchanters (of which Wizard is one title)...

I once met a mantis on a quiet intersection and attempted to encourage it to move along.

Mad-bug tried to hunt my toes. Claws up and everything.

There should be nothing humble about toucans
