You're not.

I'm biased, of course, but I think we're quite pragmatic. Do you forget that we're only one of 27 members of our voluntary union?

I think the cost of our shared--not diminished--sovereignty is brought into relief in this situation. And is dwarfed by the benefits.

It's not the European Union that needs to change, it's the British one.

What has led to stalemate is the UK's red lines. Indeed, they're the very definition of stasis.

And wake in hope!
November 25, 2025 at 9:30 PM
Yeah... I'm not so sure! 🫣

Another solid thread, thanks, Niall... 👍🏻

Ed, many of us can and do separate the act from the actor. The view we hold is one in line with an exhortation from another troublesome old book. "Hate the sin, not the sinner".

A change in Israel's government would show this. But first Israelis need to ditch the Levantine Putin.

X (an unknown, not a logo) is the future, Liz Truss, having spent a record short time as the present, is the past.

The silly question is the one you don't ask....

This. "Experience" speaks to process. Not to quality or outcome, innit.

The exceptionalists don't want citizenship. They don't want residency. They don't even want a visa. All they want is to be able to stay indefinitely without having to do anything.

It seems you can reside as long as you can support yourself, but no passport if your financial fealty is elsewhere?

Lovely thread, Niall...

The entitlement is strong in this one. 🙄
November 2, 2025 at 8:25 AM
26. Irish people can just stay. And Ireland is an EU country British people can visit indefinitely, or live in, if they wish.

Never been in an immigration queue in the US, in Australia?

Prospective members are states. They don't travel. "Customers"? WTF? Inward investment is in the queue? International relations are in the queue? You're drowning in illogicality here.

Everyone protects their borders. 🤷🏻‍♂️
November 1, 2025 at 10:35 PM
*Is*.
November 1, 2025 at 5:24 PM
What support does the EU need beyond that of its MS' populations? And we're not in the queue.

The only bit that matters are the actions (an inactions) of your sovereign parliament...
October 31, 2025 at 8:23 AM
The referendum is completely irrelevant. The UK's sovereign parliament exercised that sovereignty to trigger article 20 and thereafter proceeded to deliver close to the hardest possible Brexit. It's a fact. And it makes the UK a third country, exactly like any other non-member state.
October 30, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Yeah.... No thanks.
