I was worried that I had been played (not a Maine voter, but I gave him money and was hyping him up), but then I remembered my own origin story. I’m not the man I was before I went to war. Not trying to convince anyone to support him if the tattoo or prior service are bridges too far.

(3) I think it had to do with us wanting to rebel against what we perceived as “PC garrison culture,” which was antithetical to warfighting. It’s the same shit Hegseth rails about now. Some of us grew out of that, and I think Platner is one of those that did.

(2) there’s a nasty trend amongst combat units of using/repurposing Nazi imagery. I’m not sure what the appeal is, other than it’s a way to look “hard.” It’s the same when we’d sing gross cadences like “Napalm sticks to kids.” There was a culture of being offensive in the GWOT days.
