"There is a very strong consensus on one point - we need to move beyond GDP as a measure of progress.

The difficult step is not about indicators, it’s about how we re-examine production & consumption

A dashboard of wellbeing indicators... will not do."

Well done @lshtm.bsky.social for a great discussion on Health #Misinformation

Chris Whitty highlights the need to

- differentiate between peoples' motivations for spreading misinfo
- call out those "lying for profit"
- refer to the playbook, master merchant of doubt, Big Tobacco

Well-worth a watch.

Notable mention of Kathleen Lynch's work.

Care as a principle, a restorative force, an investment, as reparation... regulating our economies (and our nervous systems).

Great session. My takeaways:

- Lack of health journalists & resources
- Underreporting because corporate harm mostly impacts poorer people
- Buying scientific credibility– prof orgs endorsing unhealthy products for funding
- Lack of responsibility framing in health (large drivers of ill health)

I missed Ilona but great presentations from @carocostongs.bsky.social on standing up for health rights & against #CDoH (building bridges is not always the best way!!) & Jennie Popay on the need to focus on power dynamics & avoid lifestyle drift / focus on behaviour.

Finished 1st reading of wonderfully challenging book by @seyeabimbola.bsky.social. Coming from a colonised country that also exported religious missionaries, these essays articulate many imp. perspectives, sentiments & paradoxes.
Thinking a lot now about connecting a system to more of itself.

A vitally important read by @profsophieharman.bsky.social. So many takeaways... One particular point that resonated strongly: normalise investment in women's health BECAUSE IT'S GOOD FOR WOMEN. No need to over-justify or devalue it by seeking another end e.g. cost savings or service to the economy.

As we embrace cross-cutting / intersectional communications, this is a useful (not-brand-new-but- concise) planning checklist👇

The most important discussion I've heard on #Gaza, global health, institutions & ethics. We need these deeply uncomfortable & frank conversations about "economically surplus populations", humanitarianism (vs liberation health) & systemic racism.

Pic taken during my walk in the Pyrenees over the weekend (close to Amélie-les-Bains). Nature is wonderful.
