the tokonoma is usually part of a wall, but in animal crossing it's a separate furniture item. i used additional walls to make the tokonoma look more like a natural part of the room

People talk a lot how about Unlike Other Gachas, Arknights has a really good story. But people say this about every gacha. I think where Arknights differs from other gachas is that it puts the player into challenging, often uncomfortable situations. The world of Arknights is a horrible place full of injustice. The rich subjugate the poor, and the poor are rewarded for their work with a fatal illness. Many major characters distrust or outright hate you at the beginning of the game because you're not the person they once knew, and over the course of the story it becomes clear that you may not be doing the right thing like you thought you were.

Arknights' messaging can be confusing, and there are plenty of times it misses the mark completely. At the end of the day, though, it's a story about fighting for a future you may never live to see. Many of Arknights' characters have been disabled by oripathy and are living on a timer. The core tenet of Arknights is that even though the world is a terrible place, it is worth fighting for, even if it may never be good in your lifetime.

Fast forward 200 years, and Endfield seems to imply that many of the conflicts of Arknights are a thing of the past. Oripathy is still around, but manageable. You're planting originium in the ground on a plantation, caring little for the fact that it's a dangerous material that has killed millions of people. You are the savior of this new planet, and the other characters largely seem reverent of you. The landbreakers, the characters who somehow arrived on Talos-II before you? Never mind them, they're just brutal savages who can't operate complicated machinery. Their perspectives don't matter.

Endfield feels like it has removed the friction that drove Arknights' story and identity in favor of a more palatable story that's easier to sell to people who play popular action gachas like Mihoyo games and Wuthering Waves. You're now the commune's specialest little boy, doing the right thing.

The thing that I feel best exemplifies my feelings towards Endfield versus Arknights is the character of Ardelia, who is clearly modeled after Eyjafjalla from the original game. Much of Eyja's story in Arknights hinges on the fact that oripathy has rendered her deafblind, with her vision and hearing rapidly deteriorating and often impeding her dreams of being a volcanologist like her parents. But she learns to live with her disability, using aids and relying on the support of her friends and colleagues.

Ardelia is polite, sweet, and smart like Eyja. But she doesn't have oripathy, and is able-bodied. Even if she is meant to be a different character, it feels as though Endfield has taken away a key part of her original concept. I do not know why, and may never know — but from my perspective, it comes off like they've smoothed over her "flaws" to make her a more marketable character.

It's possible that I could be wrong about all of this. I've already seen people theorize that it's meant to be satire, that there will be a twist showing that you're not doing the right thing and that the Endministrator is not the savior of Talos-II that the game presents them as. But I don't think I can believe in this kind of "there's actually a secret Sherlock finale that fixes all our issues" thinking. I don't think the devs would want to alienate its playerbase that seems perfectly happy with this shiny new world, where you are the most important person.

Pokemon: Jirachi, Wish Maker

All the boy-and-his-dog stuff with max and jirachi was adorable and was the best part of the movie but by god the action climax drags like nothing else. I should not be checking to see how long I have left in a movie that’s an hour and 20 minutes long
