Of course, as a cyclist I've always said "Just keep turning the pedals". Then there's an old British saying: "Don't let the bastards grind you down". I won't and we're not alone!

Neither will I.

Hah! The building I live in is older than the USA.

Being resident is like being pregnant, no half measures.

"They need us more than we need them", as Leavers said.

Don't think he strikes so much of a chord with those of us who aren't from the USA.

It's ingrained prejudice and exceptionalism trumping common sense, again. People who complain about metres and kilos seem to forget that volts, watts and amps are likewise metric.

Like you I barely watched the last two WCs. I got the feeling something was very wrong when 80,000 people here filled the Bernabeu in 2009 just after CR had signed for Real Madrid, simply to see him, he didn't even kick a ball.

True, the UK was never on board. When I started work in industry in the late 70s work mates would bicker about adopting metric units (many still do) and mutter, "They'll be making us speak bloody French next".

True. When many of us were growing up it was truly a popular sport as going to the match used to cost little more than going to the pictures, while a legendary manager like Bill Shankly drove a Ford and lived next-door to ordinary fans. Nowadays it's just a racket and often quite boring to watch.

That does it for me, I won't watch a single game, and I speak as someone who was proud to report on a World Cup, back in the day.
December 5, 2025 at 8:35 PM
That looks very much like beans on toast!
December 3, 2025 at 4:56 PM
Insulting and irresponsible.
