god i wish sourcehut was easy to selfhost. unfortunately to do so you need like 6 other services running.

i haven't used sourcehut builds but i've heard very good thing about them, and if you selfhost the entire git instance they can't force you to pay ( they're not gitlab )

actually looking at the aurora repos, there is a way to get an hwe kernel if you just rebase

the kernel in this is an LTS version so it wouldn't support my fucky motherboard

There's work currently being done to support a good way of doing fan control, but I should also say that this board has been out for **3 years** and still isn't fully supported on Linux. It's frankly disappointing.

TLDR: AM5 sucks stay on AM4

I have gotten this working in Arch, where I can arbitrarily load modules at will, because I don't have to worry about signing the modules. Unfortunately, I would very much like to use a Fedora Atomic distro. (5/6)

In Bazzite, a *part* of the forked module I have has been merged, but due to a developer not liking the way fan control is done (I don't either, it's fair), that part isn't merged. The kernel in Aurora is on stable and therefore doesn't support that module... (4/6)

This works fine in Windows because I can use the "Fan Control" app and set everything up fine. In Linux generally, the kernel module that is supposed to support my specific fan controller chip does not support temperature (read) or fan control (write)... (3/6)

For ZFS, I cannot use Bazzite because the kernel is too new and they do not have an easy "ZFS dkms" thing that I have been able to see.

For the other point, it's complicated. I have removed the fans off of my GPU and cool it with 2x 140mm fans pointed at it... (2/6)

that does seem like a lot but like, i'm not the only person using this. there are 12 other people using this server, so even if bandwidth and hosting brought it up to $100/month of maintenance costs, that's still worth it imo. $8 a month per person to share a media library and storage is insane
