I'm at the same place in the book rn, it's so different from what I expected (also no imagery of lightning striking a raised bed or anything)
My take is he's just so horrified by the unholy thing he's done that he can't really make space for it in his mind, just has to run away.

Agreed, and the biggest tragedy of the forced sale in response to a joke offer is that he took over right as Community Notes launched which was a genuinely good thing that might have made the site improve under the old management

When I used to fly for work regularly and also carried a Leatherman often, I would keep a flat-rate prepaid box folded flat in my carry-on bags so I could mail myself anything that I forgot to check that couldn't clear security.
