Very strong argument for institutions in financial peril to pivot, completely, from current model and read and publish deals to diamond open access as only model. The world would not stop spinning on its axis.

The answer, of course, is 'it depends' - but it is by no means certain, and will require substantial change from the publication industry

Since I started looking at the reporting quality of animal research in the neurosciences (and in now way claiming causality!) - reporting of eg randomisation and blinding has pretty much doubled - so gradual improvement is happening all the time

There is always a challenge - speaking as a meta-scientist - to describe aspects of the research process which need to be improved, while not suggesting or implying we should rip it all up and start again.
