But but but, despite all of Frieren's power we have already been shown that there is a possibility that she can be bested by Fern. Fern who could only needs to use the most basic defensive and offensive spells. Something no other powerful mage would even consider.

One of the things I like about both LotR and Frieren is the dance between melancholy and hope (cause neither can exist without the other) and finding that sweet spot between them in a world that is rapidly changing but also staying largely the same.

I do wonder if elves "Fade" in a similar fashion to Tolkien elves. The three we have met, are struggling with the becoming detached with the world in different ways, but all three have their own ways of staying in the present.

And while she knows and is capable of spells of vast power and destruction, she hides it, even after her great task of killing the demon king is complete. She seems to carry it more as a burden than an accomplishment.

Frieren is a powerful mage and by Tolkien's themes would succumb to corruption. However, Frieren's more powerful spells are the small ones that ease everyday tasks. Her favorite spell creates a field of flowers. She values the magic that helps people, not magic that makes her powerful.

The great irony of DnD being inspired by so much by LotR, is that in LotR magic and power will lead to corruption. But the nature of TTRPGs is progression and the accumulation of power. This isn't a bad thing just ironic,
