Yes the black Friday ads are out. Please please don't buy from Amazon, target, Walmart or the home depot. Please support independent makers and retailers and purchase 2nd hand. I know there are retailers deserts. When we lived in Wyoming we survived with prime and Walmart. We have options here now.

After seeing the trailer for the Hamish hunger games prequel, I watched songbirds and snakes last night. I was struck by the visual mood change compared to the originals & I looked it up. The originals were filmed in north Carolina (warm Moody gorgeous) to Poland and Berlin (Stark angular haunting)

Another Thanksgiving cooking disaster comment.
This was a turkey where FRESHLY CHOPPED ONIONS were replaced with the same proportion of DRIED ONION FLAKES.
As another commenter stated, "Onion flakes, well. Remember those little pills that turn into sponge dinosaurs when immersed in water?"

"My mother was catering a Very Big Deal holiday dinner for Dad and his superiors (all doctors). Her hand slipped while cutting up the avocado for gazpacho soup and she sliced through the webbing of her thumb. The doctors, en masse, decided that taking her down to the hospital would take too long.
They were hungry and didn't want to wait for dinner! But they had a needle and suture material in the back of the car. So they sewed her up at the table without local anaesthetic. [sp]
