3/ Yesterday I suddenly remembered the phrase that had kept me alive. It felt like an electric shock running through me: omigod, that’s right. I am determined to get better. I’ve been repeating it to myself ever since just as I did from ‘14-‘20.

2/ I forgot that catchphrase during the pandemic. I stopped working out. I was convinced I would die. I have always been heavy but now I gained so much I was literally having trouble moving.

In ‘14 I had a massive stroke. Lying there I had to decide whether to live or die. I chose to live—that wasn’t an easy choice. “I am determined to get better" was my heartfelt phrase. I worked out & grew stronger than I’d ever been. I was determined to get better, whatever that meant. /1

Ok, help, somebody: my Pressed Flowers cardigan just needs a button band and it’s DONE. I. Can’t. Get. Up. I’m still sitting here in my jammies. The only other project I’ve got is a “health vest” for the hubs (Ok not really but). And that project is frustrating. Halp halp halp.
2.5 years it’s taken me—I’ve finished the body of my Pressed Flowers cardigan. Just need to finish the button band and I’m DONE.

3/ Since the stroke I have oddly become more myself. Foreign layers that accreted on me between infancy and the stroke are dissolving bit by bit. I am becoming less afraid. Sometimes. May I keep going.

2/ I could whine about how I’m so disabled—my eyesight, trouble walking, trouble thinking or talking when I get too tired—but in truth I have about 85% of my abilities; I was expected to die. I am deeply deeply grateful to the people who saved my life.

11 years ago today I had a massive stroke. My brain swelled 7.5mm to the left. I came within hours of dying but an experimental treatment saved my life; I was 497 out of 500 patients in the study and probably one of its greatest successes. 1/
