We are a nonpartisan, grassroots civic organization promoting informed and active participation in government. We are now on Bluesky @lwvwilliamsburg.org. Follow us and we'll follow you. We must stay informed. We're in this together!
We fight to protect voter privacy. Yesterday the Michigan League filed an amicus brief arguing the DOJ has no authority to demand non-public voter registration lists under the Civil Rights Act of 1960 & National Voter Registration Act. Fight with us. @lwvus.bsky.social www.lwv.org/legal-center...

The federal government has filed 22 lawsuits demanding unparalleled access to voter rolls. The DOJ promises to sue every state that does not comply with its demands. The League's position is clear. Private voter data is not a political weapon. @lwvus.bsky.social @lwvva.bsky.social

Across the country, the US Department of Justice is issuing sweeping demands and filing bad-faith lawsuits seeking unredacted voter files from states and local jurisdictions. This is unacceptable. Private voter data is not a political weapon. www.lwv.org/newsroom/pre...

We are working to ensure that our government serves the people, not wealthy special interests, by promoting transparency, limiting SuperPACs, and eliminating dark money. Unite and Rise with us in the fight for democracy. bit.ly/4g5RcEq

We work tirelessly to ensure that every eligible voter has a fair & equal opportunity to register to vote and cast a ballot. Why does this matter? Because of relentless efforts to undercut the votes of students, minorities, the disabled & vulnerable communities. Work with us on democracy. lwv.org

Today is Bill of Rights Day—These are the foundational amendments to a work in progress. Each additional amendment serves to make a more perfect Union. There is more work to be done. Today is the day to teach the Constitution to tomorrow's generations. Spread the word.

For your holiday viewing with friends and family, three Unite & Rise 8.5 videos. CEO Celina Stewart raises the question: What can we do to stand up and speak out defending our democracy? It's time to reflect. We’re going to need these tactics in the New Year. youtu.be/j4y4ab78jG8?...

This week a district court granted Maine League's request to intervene on behalf of Maine voters & their lawful right to keep personal data private. They allege that personal information may be unlawfully shared if the DOJ succeeds in their litigation. www.lwv.org/legal-center... @lwvme.bsky.social

Yesterday we celebrated Human Rights Day honoring the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Next Monday is Bill of Rights Day—a fine opportunity to teach the next generations about our Constitutional heritage. Make a plan: ed.icivics.org

More than 300,000 Missouri voters signed a petition demanding a mid-cycle redistricting partisan gerrymander be put to a statewide referendum. Even better. A federal judge dismissed an attempt to stop voters from pursuing the referendum. Now we wait. Next move. @lwvmo.bsky.social @lwvstl.bsky.social

More than 50 years after the Voting Rights Act passed, full protections for voting rights are not guaranteed. Some people still face challenges participating in elections due income, health, age, race, disability, and gender. Tell Congress to guarantee the right to vote.

One for the history books. In October a federal court granted the League’s motion to permanently block an executive order that would more likely suppress voters than protect elections. This was a win for democracy. We fight on nationwide. www.lwv.org/newsroom/pre...

Time to look back and reflect in holiday warmth. Yes. Then time to look beyond. Threats to our democracy loom into the new year. Gerrymandered maps. Voting Rights on the line. Birthright citizenship challenged. Reflect. Yes. Then Unite & Rise with us. www.lwv.org/blog/5-major...

Fourteen states have now been sued by DOJ demanding access to sensitive voter information. No case has yet succeeded. The League of women voters strongly opposes these DOJ actions & will always work to protect voters’ privacy so Americans can cast votes free from intimidation. @lwvus.bsky.social

Many people still face disproportionate challenges to participate in elections due to factors including health, age, race, and gender. Our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard. We strongly advocate measures to make voting more accessible—not less. www.lwv.org/voting-right...

In 2013, the US Supreme Court removed key protections of the Voting Rights Act in the decision of Shelby v. Holder. Since then, a surge of anti-voter bills have swept across our nation– with many being legalized. The League will not stand for this. We fight suppression. www.lwv.org/voting-right...

We went to court in April. On the last day of October, a federal court issued a decisive ruling in our favor.
