The Battle of Long Tan is a great book. I think I read it after watching The Odd Angry Shot. I had the 1990 UK paperback...not sure where it is now!

I didn't really like the film Danger Close - can't remember why. Probably coz it didn't have Bryan Brown in it😂

I'm really enjoying them. I know they are often described as formulaic but technically they are really very good. I shall look out for Rendezvous South Atlantic!

Next year I am hoping to read the Bolitho novels chronologically....

A film was made of the book and shown on UK TV back in 1985 - very little dialogue but gripping. Might be worth chasing down if you can find it

Yes, there was interesting info on Australian Walers, sturdy horses imported from Australia into the British Raj during the 19th C because the quality of the horses already used by the British Army was not good enough for campaigning in India - lots of interesting history!

Until reading this book I never really understood how the ecology of the steppe and how the horses were used directly affected the quality of the horses - and why that mattered so much in military campaigns. It was truly fascinating.
