It’s very noticeable that there is not left/progressive debate about these laws. Labor is bringing them in at the behest of the Israel lobby. Anne Twomey has written an op-ed saying they are bad. That’s it. There’s no civic society left it seems.

That no criminal conviction nor procedural fairness is required for the minister to desginate a hate group as such will invariably lead to the criminialisation of peaceful activism and protest groups. If you don't think Labor would do this, then imagine the Coalition salivating at the prospect.
The Albo government's antisemitism bill is a rushed hatchet job. Nobody has proper time to consider it carefully enough, and it will have all sorts of unintended consequences if passed. It is the worst kind of law-making: moral panic induced, pandering to powerful lobby groups' demands.

For over two years now we've been having the same argument over what constitutes antisemitism. Is it possible that the royal commission could actually contribute meaningfully to the public dialogue?
Could the Bondi royal commission actually be good for our public discourse?
Probably not, but imagine finally having a substantive national conversation about what constitutes antisemitism.

When this blows over I might have to share some of the emails I’ve received over the days which really make me wonder why I am the one accused of hatred. There is deep unresolved trauma being spewed by some of these people and we cannot consent to living according to their warped reality.
