I should probably just shut up
@lurker0000.bsky.social
Follow me at your own peril. I might just block you. If I block you, it's not because you offended me; it's because I control the noise in my life, not you.

By reading the past, I see the future.

Camp Fire and Helene survivor.
Don't get me wrong, the end of petro-civilization is inevitable - & was once the earth had a set mass - but "everyone will be dead in X years" ignores how remote and resilient some communities are.

Morocco is full of villages in the mts. that have been there hundreds, if not thousands of years.

Here's a shot taken at dusk.

Although the mountains are covered in snow (~12,500 ft), the climate where we are is subtropical, and they grow a *huge* range of fruits and vegetables.

I haven't been posting because I got really bad food poisoning, and have been completely out of it for several days.

But we're still in Morocco, currently in the high Atlas Mts.

Here's the view from our hotel.

But then you get swept up in the heady mix of humanity living humanity to the fullest, watching everything play out before you.

It's intoxicating and invigorating.

At first the medina on Marrakech seems like chaotic crush, of people, tourists, vendors, scooters, noise, and smells.
December 3, 2025 at 6:12 PM
The evening call to prayer, Marrakech medina.

Sound up.

IYKYK.

If you don't know, thousands of years of history; Silk Road, Amir Timur ("Tamerlane"), Al Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina, etc., etc.

Do an image search for Samarkand. 😳

Happy Thanksgiving!

Me, I've been giving thanks every single day - for my life and everything I have - since Nov 8, 2018, when I lost everything I had and nearly lost my life as well.

So, though we mark this day, it is just as special as every other day in my life for the past 7 years.

My wife might not like to hear this, but this cat and I are soulmates.

I love him so much, sometimes it hurts.
November 26, 2025 at 8:51 PM
Yeah, there are a few places I want to go.
November 25, 2025 at 9:58 PM
And I paid to have this installed based on the same article.

- 500 gallon offline potable water storage system.

You see, we were without water for 2 weeks after Hurricane Helene. Folks in Asheville went 56 days without water. Never again.
November 24, 2025 at 12:22 AM
Also, I built this based on an old article you wrote about water systems.

500 gallon rainwater capture system.
November 24, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Yup.
November 21, 2025 at 11:45 PM
Maybe that's in the main hall, where Maximo the Titanosaur is now, but not her current display.
November 21, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Yeah, but also, it says that's Sue the T-Rex in the Field Museum, but I was there last September, and I don't think that's it. Maybe before she got her own display, but not recent.
