Apparently the federal policeman claimed that the sandwich "exploded" all over his chest... but there was a photo of it lying on the ground still in its wrapper.

This is literally one of the most beautiful areas in the world, and all of my best photos came from here.

While I'm grateful that the northern side of Jasper was spared (for now), I mourn for what has been lost already.

It is a very cool place to take photos. I'm still kicking myself over my first visit in 1997. I was changing the film in my camera when a group of "Druids" dressed in cloaks walked across the courtyard into one of the ruins. I couldn't get my film switched fast enough to catch any photos 😭😭😭😭

Yeah that's what I thought too. I guess it's fortunate that the town is a long/thin strip because it looks like the fire crossed the strip in only 1 or 2 places.

I'll post some fire damage photos later...

This was the area I as most worried about (Patricia Lake) because most of the trees on the right side of the photo were dead from pinebark beetle infestation. Any fire there would have been devastating, but it still looks the same (for now).

It fared a lot better than I expected. I was expecting most of the town to be gone, but the fire went through in 2 small strips. However, most of the mountains to the south of Jasper were completely burned out. Nothing to see there now but black tree trunks.

Moss growing on tree branches that look like long flowing beards.
