Taking a look at it, I’m almost certain it was previously an original IP that Nintendo didn’t think would stand well enough on its own, so they slapped their closest pre-existing popular IP on top of it. They’ve done that plenty of times before, after all! (See Star Fox Adventures etc haha)

Already a lot of "being anti-AI is abelist!" nonsense around. It has destroyed many disabled artists ability to support themselves which is far more important than 'I want to make a funny picture' from another disabled person just for funsies.
