Happy Canadian Film Day!

Watch something Canadian and buy a struggling filmmaker a coffee or a townhouse or something

IF YOU ARE IN ONTARIO PLEASE VOTE TODAY!

And please vote with the knowledge that Doug Ford has personally stolen your money, raised your rent, made services in your province objectively worse and directly threatened your child’s education. A failure by any metric!

And he’ll win if you don’t vote.

Second viewing of A Different Man last night. Fucking love this movie.

Could have gone wrong in a million different ways, but nails its dark, funny, brilliant tone throughout.

Scratches a very specific itch I haven’t felt since Being John Malkovich

One of the greatest artists of the modern era.

RIP David Lynch

One of the scariest filmmakers of all time and one of the funniest. One of the best advocates for the basic decency of humanity and one of the best chroniclers of its capacity for depravity.

To be able to put such a pure encapsulation of what was in his head onscreen, seemingly without any consideration of ‘the audience’ is a miracle. To do that and still have it connect with so many people on such a personal level seems impossible. And yet he did it every time.

I always liked David Lynch’s work, but it wasn’t until I started trying to make my own films that I understood how truly special he was.

Successfully badgered my distributor into a physical release for my movie with some special features. Now it’s carried by my favourite video store.

I still get a huge kick out of that.
