To be able to put such a pure encapsulation of what was in his head onscreen, seemingly without any consideration of ‘the audience’ is a miracle. To do that and still have it connect with so many people on such a personal level seems impossible. And yet he did it every time.

I always liked David Lynch’s work, but it wasn’t until I started trying to make my own films that I understood how truly special he was.
