I think Pat Fitzgerald has an incredibly low floor, and a difficult to define ceiling. But he knows the Big Ten, dislikes our rivals, and has a huge chip on his shoulder. If the university, trustees, and donors are aligned behind him (big if) he could win here

2026 MSU head football coach Pat Fitzgerald?
I’m very glad to be getting a new football coach, but I do feel for Jonathan Smith. He seemed to be a genuinely good guy and it’s unfortunate he did not have what it takes to be successful here. He’ll build a strong program again at a lesser job, and may be able to handle a job like this someday
