Software engineer, ace/aro, any/all pronouns. I'm into all kinds of media (especially indie games and anime), media criticism/analysis, and politics.
yeah 100%, it's so cool seeing the possibility space expand, anticipating/dreading whatever fiendish future puzzles the designers are going to build around those discoveries or going back to the earlier parts of the game and realizing all the new things they open up

This is what I really love about Stephen’s Sausage Roll and A Monster’s Expedition: there’s tons of little nuances to the main actions and the joy of it is teasing out those discoveries (“I could’ve done this the whole time?!”) and seeing just how much utility they manage to wring out of them.

This is definitely AI slop, right? The missing #19, the “I point” instead of “1 point”, the bizarre title, and especially the images (why is there a camera next to the typewriter line? what are the images next to the Blockbuster and mixtape lines even supposed to be?)

Couldn’t say how solid the consensus is, but Merriam-Webster says otherwise at the very least:

“Usage experts acknowledge that none is sometimes singular and sometimes plural. They mostly recommend that you treat it as singular when it means not one, or no amount, and plural when it means not any.”
Is 'none' singular or plural? (Video)
Or both? Or neither?

Good piece! Also, shoutout to @illuminesce.net’s Interface Drama list that catalogues a bunch of these games that are built around the use of some sort of simulated OS interface: illuminesce.net/interface-dr...
The Interface Drama Master List
Interface dramas are an emergent genre of games that use software to tell interactive stories. This is a master list of all playable interface dramas on itch.io, Steam, and more.

god, this one really hit for me. "it’s piloting *you* as surely as the things I made piloted their machines" in particular is such a good line

(BTW I think you accidentally called Bookworm "Bootcamp" at one point?)

looking forward to it once I’m no longer putting all of my actions toward Hallowmas grinding!

this was the version of gamemaker we used in the game design class I took back in high school, seeing those icons instantly took me back

was trying to think of remakes that do feel justified to me and all I could come up with was The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Spelunky HD, which are obviously very different beasts from modern AAA remakes

The game’s pretty mindless, but I do at least like the puzzle of evolution discovery—taking combinations of balls I wouldn’t use otherwise because it makes intuitive sense that they’d go together, or looking at the achievements for more exotic evolutions and trying to work out their ingredients.

I love that Sound! Euphonium changed the winner of the final audition; the tear-filled scene that it leads to between Kumiko and Reina is devastating, and it's so much more impactful for Kumiko's choice to stand by her ideals to cost her dearly instead of letting her have her cake and eat it too.

what I’m hearing is that if all 12k of us followers on here kick in around one AAA game’s worth of money we could get one or two copies to share

Shoutout to the falling lava in the middle for finishing him off for me. I had kinda just assumed they would always avoid it, I was so shocked when it happened lol

That Chainsaw Man example is actually the show’s 3rd ED, not its 3rd OP (it only has the one opening)

I’ve loved everything from her that I’ve seen. The Colors Within, Liz and the Blue Bird, A Silent Voice, The Heike Story: all bangers

Ghostface from the Scream movies. Slasher movie villain who’s a fan of slasher/horror movies and is aware of the genre tropes.

I really need to watch that one (and more of Park’s filmography in general—I’ve only seen his Vengeance trilogy and The Handmaiden)

Some shows that might fit the bill: CITY THE ANIMATION, Revue Starlight, Kids on the Slope, The Apothecary Diaries, The Heike Story, and Sound! Euphonium

Thinking about this game I played recently where there’s this emotional heart-to-heart, and then the characters sit there in companionable silence—wanting to hold onto the moment but knowing it has to eventually end—until you hit ESC to leave and it just fucking closes the game, it’s devastating
