An album cover from obscure music from an American artist you’ve never heard of…
For all the bohemian reasons.

Remember when the felon president bullied Michael Cohen into quashing mention of Trump’s lousy grades (from, as Cohen testified, before Congress, high school and college?)
Trump still seethes with jealousy over Harvard’s centuries-old reputation while Trump was nepo/Fred’s boy with casino debts.

"Hope and Memory have one daughter and her name is Art, and she has built her dwelling far from the desperate field where men hang out their garments upon forked boughs to be banners of battle. O beloved daughter of Hope and Memory, be with me for a while.”

Many moons ago in 1957 Boston, but as Marlene Dietrich said, I still have legs, albeit not in ballet shoes. And I still smile, liberally. And think of so many decades of quests in the arts.

When I want to say “F-U” to RFK, Jr, vaccine and mask deniers, people who hated honorable, beloved Dr. Fauci and believed Trump’s bullshit and huffed hydroxycloroquine or Ivermectin, during the pandemic, I remember a mask that protected me from 2020-2022.

A Texas/Tejana artist I’ve admired passed on today. Right, no one in LA, NYC, Miami have ever heard of her, but aqui en San Antonio, Tejas, un dia muy triste. Viva Artistas de America! Con amor!

I wish to wish Vice President Kamala Harris a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, and fucking great New Year in 2025. Rock on, my Democratic sister from down here in “blue dot” Texas.

With my father and our dog in Bangkok, 1962-63.
The USA diplomacy of the past propelled me to a B.A. in Liberal Arts, and how strange that sounds in 2024, when “Liberal Arts” antiquates: Latin, a memory of “carpe diem” when liberalism was the “hope & change” we all dreamed of while progressing.

Photo of my mother in Barcelona with friends and her guitar, 1964.
Even as a child I felt the strangeness of Franco’s dark, oppressive Spain where people still had private joys, but public speech was very, very circumspect. They could only whisper about the people dead because of the Generalissimo.

With my father in Spain, 1964. This time of year makes dreams more about memory when love is what is remembered.
