The Dark Link room bug that made the N64 NSO emulator get a bad rap? It already started on Wii U and they never even patched that on that console, but at least, they did on Switch.

Wii U absolutely did not do any better, Switch 1 & 2 is actually so much better than Wii U, and is ACTUALLY better than Wii in quite a few ways too. That's the sad thing.

yes, obviously
December 18, 2025 at 12:02 AM
I admit for myself that I don't really mind it, but I know it is more or less distracting to many others so I added it anyway
December 17, 2025 at 11:38 PM
okay actually I added a few more and especially one in particular because I know people would absolutely make a comment about it, but please don't forget the rest of the problems I listed
December 17, 2025 at 10:30 PM
I looked into it from the manual but I wasn't entirely sure what it meant for tracking as I still haven't played Blast Corps

I updated a bit to address some remarks + added some more information about Controller Pak usage + a bit more nitpicks from me lol
December 17, 2025 at 8:01 PM
Well I dunno but it's not on NSO so it's outside the scope of the list I made
December 17, 2025 at 8:01 PM
yeah but you see how far I had to go to find it ?
I can definitely see someone playing Startropics without any context and NEVER be searching that and give up, it would at least be good for the app to have the information somewhere and it's not having that info lol

Here's how you figure it out on NSO, the official way I guess

That piece of hardware is the Controller Pak, which I mention, I just didn't mention the game it is for. It's not just Rayman 2 and Tonic Trouble, it's also for Mario Kart 64's Ghost Data, Winback, Turok, Shadowman and more
December 17, 2025 at 5:36 PM
The worst part is that they could have included it in the Other Controls information, but they didn't, I checked.
December 17, 2025 at 5:14 PM
As in Nintendo actually emulated the Controller Pak in the emulator on Switch in a working state and they're not using it for some reason
December 17, 2025 at 4:56 PM
Well it's simple: link cable does not allow breaks. If it does, then actually everything falls apart because the data is linear and any delay means we should actually just stall the emulation until the data is properly received. So they opted for the kind of thing where delays are not bad: inputs.
December 17, 2025 at 3:59 PM
Not necessarily, I can't really get a full idea of the Switch 2's power. But I just wanted to emphasize that link cable emulation through wireless means is more of an absolute nightmare than people would realize

GBA online is handled by emulating 4 GBAs on each system. As in all players have 4 GBAs being emulated, with 3 in the background synced to other player's saves and inputs. They did this because else it's impossible
December 17, 2025 at 3:21 PM
Nah believe me, with a second system it's going to be slowwwwwww af it's way more of a serious technical problem than you might think
December 17, 2025 at 3:20 PM
TBH GC to GBA compatibility is not really useful, and anyway it requires to emulate both the GC and GBA at the same time, which I don't know if the Switch 2 can even pull that off considering the actually pretty accurate GBA emulator they made.
December 17, 2025 at 2:58 PM
It's by no means something that makes it unplayable, and I will never imply that, just that a basic feature of the game isn't allowed to be emulated for completely arbitrary reasons and isn't really warned to the user until you attempt to save.
Not everyone will instantly think to use save states.
December 17, 2025 at 12:38 PM
Yes, but the problem is more about the inconsistency of things. I would also like to play as originally intended, and I can actually do that for a large majority of games on the service that supports saving, but then for some reason I have games that can do in-game saves and then I can't do that.
