Stig and Nele have been busy installing tension lysimeters the last few days. This will help us estimate nutrient leaching from perennial wheat #Kernza and the annual reference crop (currently winter wheat).

Our amazing field assistants are hard at work conducting forest inventory in our continuous cover forest at Rumperöd.
Their efforts help us monitor forest structure, growth and dynamics, supporting sustainable management and carbon balance research.

New C/N analyzer, new lab - all part of our soon-to-be Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Kalle and Stig are hard at work setting up the equipment.
Exciting times ahead!

Flux tower maintenance: the ultimate Monday reset. Climbing gear on, sensors humming, data flowing. Who needs coffee when you’ve got eddy covariance and a view like this? Awesome work by Peter and Tobias

Wrapped up a great fieldwork day with our MSc Physical Geography students! Today they dismantled the eddy covariance tower they installed at the start of the course, marking the end of six weeks of successful flux measurements. Great teamwork and solid science in action!

We had the pleasure of meeting up with Professor Paul Stoy in Lund this week—he joined us as the opponent for a PhD defense and still made time to visit our agricultural EC flux field site. Great science, good vibes, and even better company!

Forest inventory underway at our continuous cover forestry site, aimed at characterizing stand structure, growth dynamics and management outcomes. A key challenge involves quantifying natural regeneration by counting seedlings and saplings

Anna has spent a few days taking soil and root samples down to 2 m depth in our perennial wheat field. Hard work but she's has good help from Jonas and Ryan from SITES Lönnstorp... and from the Wintex soil corer

Great fieldwork days with our new batch of Master students, here at at our agricultural site. During these days, they have set up their own eddy covariance tower and practiced flux measurements using chambers, among other things.

Today it was time for the second annual harvest of our perennial wheat #kernza. Perfect harvest weather and it seems like both grain and straw yield will be significantly higher than the first year.

Soon time for harvest at our #Kernza site in Alnarp,Southern Sweden. Exited to analyze 2 years of perennial crop EC flux measurements & compare the C balance to conventional crops (1 year rape seed & 1 year winter wheat).

Maintenance in full swing at the Dahra site, with Osman and Tobias as tower crew and Aleksander on the ground. Check and cleaning of the EC gas analyzer done and filters in the profile system swapped. So far all went smoothly.

While a heatwave is pounding Europe some of us got away to enjoy surprisingly slightly cooler weather in Senegal. 31 C only but very humid since it's the beginning of the rain season. Still pretty dry and bare in the the footprint of the Dahra EC tower though.

We managed to pick the hottest day of the year for installations of collars for N2O chamber measurements in agricultural trials at SITES Lönnstorp. Still relative cool compared to southern Europe these days...

Exiting visit from @crews-tim.bsky.social at our perennial crop site today. Tim is chef scientist at The Land Institute in Kansas and an expert on the perennial wheatgrass IWG (Kernza) we're growing in cooperation with TLI. The IWG seems to be growing well this year, already up to 1.5 m tall
