yes first coat light and misty, second coat similar less misty, and then a wet final coat to get it glossy smooth. you can try only two coats if you feel risky :)

i use mr surfacer,
than sometimes acrylics
and after that lacquer gloss coat for panel lines and decals etc.
maybe try it on a scrap runner part. ✌️
