But I can’t deny that I love a good natural disaster! One that is so epic it passes down through history! I also thought about the eruption of Krakatoa and at Thera, but having been to Pompeii and walking up Vesuvius, there’s more of a connection there

This was another tricky one for me as there’s way too many events that I would love to have witnessed. Any medieval coronation or a good royal wedding of the period… or the fall of Troy, or the battle of Hastings… or to witness Leonardo da Vinci at work in his studio…

This one was so tough! There are far too many historic figures that I’d want to just get all the gossip from and the actual facts of what went down!

Finally whittled it down to 3!

What historic figure would you love to have dinner with?

Therapist: So what are you thinking about when you say your brain wakes you up at 3am?

Me: If the unified land of Anglo-Saxons had been named after the Saxons and not after the Angles, instead of England we would have Sexland.

Venus herself is believed to actually be a portrait of a renowned beauty of the Renaissance, Simonetta Vespucci.

For Day 10 of the History Content Challenge I need to name my favourite portrait.

It will come as no surprise to many that know me, that I am naming the Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli.

Today, we remember Émilie du Châtelet as a founding voice of modern physics and a reminder that curiosity knows no gender.
November 9, 2025 at 5:48 PM
For Day 9 of the History Content Challenge, I needed to pick an underrated historical figure.

For this, I am going with Émilie du Châtelet: the genius behind Newton’s fame in France, a physicist, philosopher, and all-around rule-breaker who refused to accept that science was “for men only.”

So I know Gandalf wasn’t a real person, but the words he spoke in this quote were written by author JRR Tolkien. Someone very real and who lived through incredibly tough times.

Day 8 of the History Content Challenge calls for an inspirational quote from an historical figure…

Bear with me on this one!

Have you visited the Tower? What was your favourite thing about it?
November 7, 2025 at 4:49 PM
3, On 15th August 1941, German spy and prisoner Josef Jakobs was executed by firing squad at the Tower for treason. He is the last person to be executed at the Tower, although not the last person to be imprisoned. That title goes to the infamous Kray twins in 1952!

It wasn’t until 1835 when the Duke of Wellington closed the menagerie and moved the animals to Regents Park, and the collection was soon after made into what we now know as London Zoo.
November 7, 2025 at 4:49 PM
2, It wasn’t known as a zoo, but the Royal Menagerie. Animals that were gifted to the royals over the centuries, such as elephants, lions and even a polar bear were kept at the Tower.
November 7, 2025 at 4:49 PM
1, The official name of the Tower of London is actually: His Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London
November 7, 2025 at 4:49 PM
For day 7 of the History Content Challenge, I need to give 3 little known facts.

As I visited the Tower of London today with my son, it seems apt to make the most of the subject!

But the book I have to recommend is The Time Traveller’s Guide to Medieval England.
I don’t think I’ve ever come across a history book that does such a good job of making you feel like you’re transported back to the era.
