This panel healed a fair bit of psychic damage. Rooting for Thomas and his maybe odd couple dads!
Martha/Cerebella, a mutant, can passively read minds, and characters' thoughts are displayed in pink thought bubbles. Escapade, in a flowy blue dress with yellow belt, runs towards her friends, shouting "Martha! Morgan!" while thinking "They look so cute!" On the other side of a statue in the middle of the Avengers Academy lawn, Blackheart and Immortus stand facing each other in very different white outfits. Immortus wears a flowing cloak over priestly gear, while Blackheart wears boots, slacks, and an open-chested top. As they regard each other, we see their thoughts about one another. Immortus thinks, "He's hurting" while Blackheart thinks, "He's naive." Meanwhile Thomas, an adorable brown terrier, looks at both and thinks, "Dads?"

Everyone is (rightfully!) talking about how great Johnny Storm looks but the highlight for me was the ongoing contrast between Brielle and Blackheart being made silly.

Also Blackheart continuing to protect the adorable dog he brought home from the past <3
Walpurgis, a purple cat who is definitely not actually a cat, looms over Brielle Brooks and Blackheart. Brielle has thrown her hands up in the air and shouts, "Walpurgis! Bad kitty! You unshrink us right this second!" Loved getting to see Marcus and Shela hang out in this week's Avengers Academy!
Marcus Wetherwell, trans masc Daily Bugle reporter extraordinaire, sits across from Shela and Sexton (Escapade) at a picnic table under a teal umbrella. Marc's red hair is messy and he wears a blue polo that matches his eyes. His arms are up as he exclaims, about Justin Jin (Kid Juggernaut), "Don't get me wrong -- I really, really like the guy, and we're gonna keep dating! But we need to have our *own* adventures too! It's been either horrendously hot or thunderstorming most of the last few weeks but at least my semi-wild marigolds are having a good time
Several taller than average marigold plants with red-bordered orange flowers are flourishing in front of some kind of flowering shrub (it gets yellow ones in the spring) that we've never identified

Good comics always carry story in their art but this week did some serious heavy lifting, both in service of the main plot and in the continuation of Aaron and Lunella's adorable goofy big brother/beloved baby sister dynamic.

This issue broke my heart and healed it again.
This is a playful outdoor scene after some serious events. Aaron Fischer and Lunella Lafayette have been playing with Aaron's shield as a Frisbee. In this panel, Aaron appears in a cropped white tank top that shows off his muscle and some of his tattoos. Little Lunella sits on his shoulders, and he's holding her steady by her socks. Devil Dinosaur is not in this issue but appears on her shirt, and she's reaching up into a tree to retrieve Aaron's shield after it's gotten stuck. Brielle Brooks (Bloodline) and her mother, Saffron Caulder, are seated on the front porch of the family home, embracing. Brielle's pink hair and tall black boots stand in stark contrast to her mother's more typical mom outfit. Brielle has just admitted to having feelings for a girl at school, who readers know to be Escapade, and Saffron has asked if she's happy. Brielle answered that she thinks she could be, and in this panel, Saffron says, "Well. That's a start, isn't it? Find happiness and raise *hell* for it, baby girl."

Pride Read #4 for me this year was Sasha Geffen's "Glitter Up the Dark: How Pop Music Broke the Gender Binary." I'll admit to having first picked it up because the cover is awesome.

It's a well-researched, dense read. I learned new things about artists I expected and learned of quite a few more

Pride Read #2 went much faster - The Mighty Nein Origins: Caduceus Clay is a beautiful comic and brought some much-needed peace to my evening
The book's title appears at the top in heavily stylized text - Critical Role The Mighty Nein Origins: Caduceus Clay. Blue herbs hang from a ceiling at the top of the cover above an arch-shaped window with a view of the grove the Clay family tends. Trees, flowers, and gravestones can be seen. As they fight Doombots who have come after Blackheart while on top of a train, Bloodline swings her sword and says, "Okay, Cap - gonna point it out just to point it out: Blackheart is a demon. Like, an *actual demon*. Cap, bracing himself and raising his shield to deflect a laser from a Doombat, says, "He's our friend, Bloodline. Well, sort of. I'm pretty sure he hates me. But I don't care what else he is. I'm getting him *home*" The next panel makes it clear that Bloodline doesn't disagree, but she felt the need to put it out there.

Plucky trans masc reporter Marcus Wetherell has been detained by Hydra. Still in his broadcast outfit, he is chained and kneeling on the floor of a train while Cherry Crane, looking like she could be Black Widow's Wario with her long red hair and black catsuit (with gold Hydra trim), menaces him, one hand on his chin. Cherry asks, "I wonder: what is your real name, "Marcus"? Is it buried somewhere in all the paperwork? Will we find it before we burn you from history?" Marcus says, "Marcus *is* my real name." Cherry begins, "Oh, come now. Face it, you'll always be..." before Shela's blue-gloved hand taps her on the shoulder. "Excuse me..." Everybody needs a Lunella in their life
Normie Osborn (Red Goblin) and Lunella Lafayette (Moon Girl) sit on a hill overlooking the future landscape they were transported to a few issues ago. With a combination of their help and some magic from Jara, the dystopian landscape has begun to recover, with grass, trees, and sunflowers growing and a clean stream running by in the background. Haven't been reading as much as I should lately so I'm spending this TDOV Eve with @planetx.bsky.social's Galaxy: The Prettiest Star. I've barely started and already adore this kid (and dog!).
