We estimated PRAL (in mEq/100 ml) based on the Remer's formulas as follows: PRAL (mEq/100 ml)=(0.49*total protein intake (g/100ml)) + (0.037*phosphorus intake (mg/100ml)) - (0.021 * potassimum intake (mg/100 ml)) - (0.026 * magnesium intake (mg/100 ml)) - (0.013 * calcium intake (mg/100ml)). Previously correlated with urinary pH values, this validated formula considers ionic dissociation, intenstinal absorption rates from the included micro- and macronutrients and sulfur metabolism.
