🚨This is so important:

"After years of denial the international consensus is now shifting,” according to physicist @yaneerbaryam.bsky.social

COVID-19 is:

🛑creating a 12.9% increase in workplace absences compared to pre-pandemic

🛑causing a 2% increase in excess deaths vs. pre-pandemic

Highly recommend this review from Oba et al. on the current status of Long COVID research & treatment -- worth a read! ✨

Here, the authors outline the major hypotheses for the root causes of LC. The research community has largely been coalescing around these ideas in the last 1-2 years. 📊

✨ New study confirms tenofovir efficacy against SARS-CoV-2! (This includes Truvada!). ✨

In this study, researchers looked at two forms of the anti-HIV antiviral: tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF).

They found both drugs effective against the virus in-vitro!

🚨Fascinating new analysis from @ucirvine.bsky.social researchers on the possible role of SARS-CoV-2 persistence in Long COVID:

The authors outline several mechanisms by which the virus could remain in the human body and cause disease.

@amymitchellart.bsky.social says: "NIH has access to every kind of medication and test, even those not yet FDA-approved. Patients needed NIH to trial the tests and treatments their doctors can’t prescribe, or at minimum to test the effectiveness of off-label antivirals.”

Patients voiced nuanced criticisms.

@loscharlos.bsky.social said, “Overall if [the first] round of trials was D grade, I’d put this in B- territory.”

PATIENTS HAVE A VOICE:

IRB approval is also necessary so that we can compensate patients for their contribution to our research.

One of the things that makes our organization unique is that every patient who contributes to a study will receive $COVID governance tokens in return.

WHY WE NEED IRB APPROVAL:

In the US, Institutional Review Board approval (or IRB) for short is necessary to conduct scientific research at scale.

An Institutional Review Board ensures that study participants are treated ethically, and in compliance with all applicable laws for human trials.
