I wouldn’t say it’s frowned upon by people I know either (thankfully), but more so there’s a sense you’ll fall behind if you do something else for a bit.

Anecdata: I have a friend who’s been out of webdev field for over a year and is finding it impossible to land a new job in the same field.

pretty much the opposite of normal from my perspective. I know very few friends/family/colleagues who have worked in more than one field.

We do usually ask the speaker to share slides after though, so I can share those.
