My simcity friend was unreasonably excited about this

We're literally at pets dot com levels here
I don’t want to seem out of touch but I don’t actually understand the economy anymore.

The private market cannot address the housing crisis. The government should buy land or use eminent domain to build high density concrete bricks near mass transit.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Why did they explain that she can jump lol
Wait what they just randomly dropped a prime 4 trailer today???

Another cool point is these things are powerhouses. Like faster than enthusiast machines that cost 5x as much as close as 5 years ago.
I think this segment of cheap micro pcs running Unix based oses is well positioned to make a really interesting impact on consumer computing over the next couple of years. Add in framework, and you have a very interesting segment starting to develop.

I'm going to rant about the steam machine for a minute so bear with me. If anyone remembers the '08 crisis, one tech trend during that time was cheap, underspecced laptops called netbooks. These were like $3-400, had Intel atom processors, and sucked shit.

We need to outlaw founding SaaS companies
it's on miro. it's literally on figma. you have to log into okta. it's in jira. it's on zoom. it's on pureref. it's on flow. it's on perforce. it's on slack. you can find it on slack. you can go to slack and find it. log onto slack right now. you can slack it. slack has it for you. it's on slack.

I think I'm definitely a better programmer than I am an artist but unfortunately I am slow as shit at both of them lol

Your game can become beloved even if it is imperfect
Super Mario World has an extremely eclectic art style whereby many enemies are drawn in completely different ways. Development files reveal Mario went through many stylistic changes; it is possible that all the enemies were made to fit Mario, but at different points in time.

Steamcube bringing us the year of the Linux desktop

Someone asked me a really specific game dev question and I had actually built the exact system they wanted to build lol. It's only like 5 lines of code but it was fun to know the answer.

In shocking turn of events, guy least involved in the actual development of games feels generative AI is necessary to the development of games.
November 12, 2025 at 2:45 AM
If AI made us more productive then it wouldn't be 3 games and we all have worklife balance, it would be management abusing you to push out 6 games now because you're so much more productive, or they make half of us redundant and make anyone left so more with less. Don't believe their lies.
And one other thing: we’re being told that AI is the only way to make games cheaper and faster, to pull us from this precipice of production nightmares the industry has found itself in. That it’s necessary.

We put out roughly 3 motherfucking games a year, not touching the stuff.
Skill issue.

Finally Gwitch. A lot of similar motifs to Unicorn, the heavy use of brass and strings is back, but you have the incredible vocals from Clara Sorace adding a lot to some of the more dramatic moments in the show. A great gundam ost.

Turn A's soundtrack almost has a split personality. On the one hand you have tracks like girls rule that sound like they're from the turn of the century like a Rhapsody in Blue. Appropriate for the bustle of Turn A's early industry society. 1/2

Unicorn is peak UC. Lots and lots of brass. The soundscape is edged with synth. Not as obvious as gquuuux but fitting for Unicorns hidden modes. Feels like I'm going Mach 20 into a space opera. Kicks ass
November 12, 2025 at 1:33 AM
Gquuuux has some of the more interesting motifs. It's chaotic, sweeping and hopeful. Lots of wind, strings, and distorted synth
November 12, 2025 at 1:29 AM
I've listened to every gundam soundtrack now and I think my favorites are Unicorn, GWitch, Turn A, and Gquuuux
November 12, 2025 at 1:27 AM
One of the understated parts of Gquuuux is that even in a world where Char dies, the Zabis end up destroying themselves anyway because fascism is a self consuming ideology.

OpenAI is a disgusting symbol of our failure to enforce anti-trust and prevent consolidation in the tech industry. Capital should not be so concentrated that a small group of morons can pour enough money into an obviously unprofitable enterprise that it threatens the whole economy.
