Tickets are now on sale for this fantastic book festival in the Lake District (links in comments). I’ll be on a couple of panels, doing a reading and signing, but most excitingly, I get to interview my top-favourite (living) author, Andrew Michael Hurley! 🖤

I’d booked myself onto an untutored writing retreat at the wonderful Moniack Mhor in the Highlands for mid-January, but am now unable to attend. If anyone’s interested in taking my place, you can book online at the link in the comments below. All their other retreats are fully booked until May!

Kids, please don’t do this, when you know the Kindle version is only £3.99. It demeans you.

Hay-on-Wye Castle staff, Christmas 1915. I like the various expressions, demeanours, and facial hair, but what I love most is the woman in the window, top left, defiantly gazing down on those posing below. I wonder who she was, and whether she planned for future generations to imagine her as a ghost

Stunning book delivery from @galleybeggars.bsky.social Three ghost stories - Dickens, Gaskell and Spark - each in their own dinky volume, with matching bookmarks - and just look at those cute French flaps! Thanks so much for these

Found an inclusion in a second-hand cookery book today which, on first glance, appears to be a recipe for some bizarre grapefruit curry, but on closer inspection seems to show a family sitting down to feast on an entire snake AND the only adult has trotters for feet (cc @nicholasroyle.bsky.social)

We moved house in summer and have only just got round to clearing some of the more overgrown parts of the garden. Turns out we have a pet cemetery/sematary (at least we *think* it’s pets). The headstone on the left, barely legible, reads ‘Jack. Died March 12 1872 😳

Always a delight to see my sun-drenched, sweaty little baby on a bookseller’s display (spotted at Waterstones Hereford)

I've not been on here for ages, but feel that now is the time to come back. So, errr, here's a cat pic. Thank you for your time.
