So, anyway … what are the names of your five new dogs, Kev?

Hey brother, sending the biggest virtual hug I can to you right now.

Fair dinkum. I’m not denying that there are plenty of bell-ends out there who do this. It literally only just occurred to me that that could be a factor.

Just a thought: sometimes the only indication provided is either red or green. If you have red/green colour blindness, you effectively have no indicator.

A little video demo, showing it in action. Shows the selection of the element, then it clones it 5 times and shows 5 states for the button selected.

Don't worry, I'll be writing my 'Time Machine' bookmarklet next week ... Or did I already make it? Hmmm 🤔

State of THAT! does exactly that.
👉 a11y-tools.com/bookmarklets...

Pick an element and it will find all the states and show them on the page. Useful for spotting issues with contrast for focus, hover, and active states, and easy to screenshot for your records.

You know the deal - drag these to your toolbar or right-click and add to favourites. Then run them whenever you feel like it.

Prompted by compadre Craig Abbot after I released the Node Duplicator (a11y-tools.com/bookmarklets...) who said "it would be great if you could just point to a thing and have it apply the different states automatically). Seed sown!

He always does this, and he never actually pays attention despite being asked on numerous occasions. I think you are speaking to a brick wall there, Stephanie.

It's also in The Big a11y-tools Bookmarklet Collection extension (chromewebstore.google.com/detail/a11y-...)

Also handy for adding extra cruft to pages for testing reflow/overflow issues etc

One other advantage is that whenever I update existing scripts or add new ones, if you have the extension you'll get the updates automatically.

So, please go give it a spin, let me know what you think.

But then, have you seen the 'design' of a11y-tools? Hardley stopped me there ...

So, I made an extension that has all of my bookmarklets in. It looks just exactly how I expected it would look, but it does the job!

I've been asked a number of times whether I would ever consider bundling all of my bookmarklets up into an extension. My response has largely been along the lines of "Well, I might, but my design 'skills' have been a blocker because I can't make it look anything other than slightly shit".
