Lastly, I presented data looking at the influence of ‘other’ when attributing mental states, and potential biases in mentalizing processes - are we better able to attribute mental states to people the same-age as us?

Our penultimate speaker was Heather Ferguson (@kent.ac.uk), who presented fascinating data examining mechanisms of social cognitive changes in older age, including social attention, mental state attribution, and visual perspective taking

We then heard from Andrew Surtees (@uob-sop.bsky.social) about how mood can impact children’s mentalizing processes - are children like adults, becoming more egocentric when in happier moods? Is it helpful to be sad?!
