Yeah it still seemed pretty vague until ponhierat. I want to figure out where it appears now!!!

Checking my dictionaries, “ponhiera” just says “mesure pour les grains” but the FEW gives the same Latin etymon for both “ponhiera” and for “ponh”. That etymon is “pugnus” = fist! 😁 there is also an Occitan word “ponhierat” (noun, something from which someone has taken one or more handfuls already)

This was so fun to read!!!! And I suspect your measure is related to fistfuls (poignée in French, ponh in Occitan)

This music scribe REEEEALLY loved himself a climacus. He had to erase six of them on this one leaf (selection in the photos)! What was he up to?! 🤔 (MSS 400, XOPF 400/40-4)

Another fun binding fragment (although the whole codex is in scope for this item!): a Syriac manuscript on paper, with binding material from another Syriac manuscript on paper! Inception!

Here is a very cool object: a volume with stacked paper boards that have come apart, revealing a manuscript fragment between the print waste! (Rare Books PA2317 .E7 1546). The manuscript leaf is from a psalter 🌟

I used to do this! Then once, I accidentally left my keyboard in French. When I got to my destination, I found a transcription not of my urgent and cogent ideas about manuscripts, but some really weird French stream of nonsense poetry. It was entertaining! but I decided to record memos after that.
