When I was in labour with our son, England were playing in the World Cup in Australia and a very junior doctor kept popping in to see how "I" was doing. He was able to follow an easy win over Sri Lanka and see his first ten pounder being born (it was only his 3rd week!)
Congratulations to you all 💕

The Guardian film critics made it through the year without seeing The Ballad of Wallis Island? To be fair, it was hard to find a screening when cinemas wanted us to see The Salt Path five times in a day🤷‍♀️

We may well find it'll drop off our radar. We listen to the Crick Institute podcast A Question of Science, which Brian Cox chairs perfectly well, but it lacks the passion and energy of TIMC.

Sarah Pochin's not going to feel at all at home in the Anglican churches of Runcorn where the clergy are brilliantly woke and enthusiastically inclusive.

I was a bit worried by his introduction but you were brilliant!

I also rely on my daughter to hear about the latest volcano video!
She thinks clothing is worse than 30 years ago, tells me she hopes I'd only buy from the boys' range in Sainsbury's if she was little now.

I'm in the lucky position of being able to say "My daughter loved dinosaurs when she was little", though I often add, she also loved the stars and when she grew up she studied astronomy. I've only met grown-ups happy to have their daughter's interests validated, but I'd speak up if they said this!

They have to memorise the words you can't sound out, some are very common ones. And adults often use context, sometimes incorrectly, or skip words.
In England we test phonics too early for some (at 5/6), and use synthetic words some children don't like, but it helps identify who needs more support.

I was waiting to see how they taught reading at 4/5, then realised this was it! You'd not see this anywhere in the UK, but I understand Govt obsession with phonics if they think this is the alternative. As a governor I watch brilliant reception teachers building words with a class using phonics.

We do also have a Seestar, which has been fun🙂
It's great for showing the sky to primary school children, who struggle to use an eyepiece. One evening a few of the 7 year-olds there saw through binoculars that one star in Orion's sword looked fuzzy, but they all wowed at the Seestar image.

I've managed to see Uranus in a suburban Bortle 6/7 sky with reasonable quality 10x50s (and the help of Stellarium)
It was exceedingly satisfying though!

Trans women and girls excluded from Girlguiding and Women’s Institute: Our response
We are deeply saddened that both Girlguiding and the Women's Institute have been put in a position that has resulted in trans women and girls being excluded from their organisations.

From previous statements, and the way this last has been phrased, I think they don't want to do this and have been told they could be financially ruined (the other side has so much money☹️).
Good Law Project are challenging the Supreme Court ruling; it needs to be done on behalf of everyone.

She's not really a comedian. But her "I'm Not As Well As I Thought I Was" at the Lowry a couple of years ago was fascinating, though it did need the engaged audience to work.
Ricky Gervais wrote his best work with Stephen Merchant but didn't have anything to do with the great The Outlaws so...🤷‍♀️

Perfect casting for Stevie. We laughed out loud.

I've subscribed in Podcast Addict so it'll probably work on most people's preferred podcast platform. (I put the title in the search box but had to add Mark Watson to find it)
