The pension also increases twice every year in line with the Consumer Price Index, so it's not eaten away by inflation.

The pension is from the Australian government. My super is run by my union and is very good and reliable. When I retire I'll have access to both. You also get a pension card which gives you lots of discounts like even cheaper medications.

Also, I'm an academic and our super is 17% on top of our wage. 12% is the minimum.

Yes - in Australia the age pension still underpins all this. It's currently at about $1100.00 per fortnight for singles. It diminishes according to what assets you have, which doesn't count your home. Most people have a mix of pension and super.

As Jacob and Margot are both Queenslanders I would have loved to have seen a contemporary remake set on the Gold Coast. Would have cracked me up.

it’s Vogue that’s doing that for the photoshoot. In any case do you think Fiona use actual locations very often? They don’t.

I loved the Secret Life of Us. Primarily because I lived in St Kilda. It was so familiar.

So American that you think this is basic knowledge. I bet they didn’t know what a biscuit was for Americans.

I agree. I also notice that people from other countries tend to give context on social media.

JFC! That’s heavy. Don’t drop it on your foot.

Fun fact. Tim Tams are named after a horse who won the Kentucky Derby in 1957. So, there’s your American connection.
November 24, 2025 at 5:04 AM
Australian here. Until very recently I had no idea that Americans use the word differently. Because why would I? How much would you know about Australian word usage?

I loved the look of this film. It really made me feel like I was in Brazil in the '70s.

I need to see it again to further unravel its complexities. Probably the most interesting, and thought provoking, film I've seen this year.

Was American ever great?
