Writing about the narratives that shape US child care policy. Fighting for universal child care.

Putting New York before everyone else is his job but this position is to the detriment of Congress being able to ever pass meaningful policy to improve people's lives at the federal level.

New Mexico will not achieve universal child care for families by continuing the legacy of subsidizing child care with the poverty wages of its workforce.

I'm already so sick of the gloating tone about a 2026 blue wave because of the decimation of Medicaid and the expiration of ACA subsidies. I'm consumed by worry about healthcare and people much, much sicker than I am. The people who won't make it to 2026. How much worse it will be by January 2027.

thank you to forum moderation and livejournal for the wisdom to understand adults' behavior on the internet when you're 15 and dealing with an adult who has a lot of hangers-on saying "i'm not touching you and also i am morally correct"

Thinking about how I was treated professionally for publicly criticizing this because I knew it meant so-called "human infrastructure" would never pass, then having it happen AGAIN for the IRA, and how it is happening AGAIN with the Senate caving on Medicaid and the ACA right now

Attacks on social emotional learning are attacks on the last vestiges of (and first moments in life when a child is exposed to) diversity, equity, and inclusion, This is why Russ Vought has repeatedly tried to defund, destroy, and exclude children from Head Start. He said so explicitly. 3/4

The concept of "winning the argument" without actually restoring the subsidies

This thought was prompted by Dick Cheney's death and the image I have thought about nearly every day for a year. A fight against Trump that highlighted Liz Cheney is one that prioritized reputation laundering for a dying architect of authoritarianism under the guise of expanding the tent.

Seems clear that Netflix has allowed this deeply cringeworthy Peaky Blinders White House propaganda edit to stay up because they want to buy Warner Bros. So. That's cool.

when Harris took over, she launched her campaign with a really beautiful speech about the importance of care... then backtracked so hard that by the time the DNC happened her spokespeople said Biden already fixed child care through regulatory changes and all she would do was restore the enhanced CTC

Ahead of the debate that forced Biden to drop out, he was coached by Gina Raimondo to talk about child care through provisions in the CHIPS act that would require plants to ensure there is enough child care for their employees. Biden couldn't do it, but I mean it when I say NO ONE COULD.

social safety net and popular economic policies but no mention of child care, surely that's in this 50 page document at least once...

Gillibrand is leading a roundtable for pro-crypto Senate Democrats this week. She has stopped even pretending to serve New Yorkers.

Celebrated @jackguignol.bsky.social today in the appropriate fashion: pirate mini golf, Mexican food in an old diner, and a Victorian mansion. We can only hope they lowered the pirate ship flag to half mast for Charlie last week.
