Human cabinet of curiosities.
It's not so much the tech, it's the humans who are driving the tech development. I have no issues with the technology, but I share similar distrust that the humans building/driving/harnessing it are being as thoughtful as we all want and need them to be.

I honestly love this idea. :)

Totally appreciate the nitpicking, and I get the flaws in the comparison. I just think my post was more responding to a prevalent idea of AI as a passing fad rather than a continuation of machine development we have been engaged in for centuries.

Along this line of thinking, we can encourage thoughtful developers to harness AI and use it in well thought out ways for good across a multitude of applications, which may include inventing better, accessible mass transportation that does away with a car-centered society.

I think there is a third lane, which is understanding the benefits, not ignoring it, and not running around screaming that the sky is falling because of it.

I think that is wishful thinking - I also sometimes wish I lived in much more simple times, but I live in rural Vermont and still use machines every day in a multitude of ways, while also enjoying the night sky, long walks, and great conversations that are not AI-dependent. It's always a balance.

But even this is an inadequate comparison, of course, because it is one application of machine building that has changed our lives, and the applications of AI will be more vast, as a continuation of a long history of machine development that has changed our landscape.

Thanks for being reasonable.

Do we not walk as much? Yes. Does that have long term affects on our our lives and health, and has it put a lot of horses out of business? Also yes. Do people die in car accidents? Absolutely. But is anyone ready to go back to a time without the convenience of cars? Not. One. Bit.

Thank you. I read people who talk about the looming AI tech bust, and how we are going to financially crash because of it, and I think these people would have bet against the creation of cars in 1886 as a passing fad that boasted more promise for change than it would create.

In the 90s a British TV presenter called Selina Scott interviewed Trump and she talked about her time with him around the beginning of his first term. She said she felt very uneasy with his ability to seamlessly switch from being nice to being nasty, funny, critical, confrontational, and back to...

Absolutely. Trump is actually a great example of saying every thought in his brain and gaining people’s trust because it seems authentic, even though everything that comes out of his mouth is narcissistic sewage. But because he constantly contradicts himself, I think that trust is wearing thin.

I don’t have as much faith in Mamdani as many do. I think he is a fast-talking big promise-maker which makes him way more akin to most politicians than to most authentic people I have met :).
November 22, 2025 at 1:52 AM
Why meet with Mamdani at all? There are many he has not invited or hosted. What is the political gain for him? MAGA is furious about it. So what’s he gaining? There’s always a reason and it is never to save face. It’s always transactional.
November 22, 2025 at 1:33 AM
That’s exactly it! So why wouldn’t he have done it here? I worry about the motive.
