Unbearably symptomatic today. If not for this little guy, there’s no way I could keep going. Animals remain magical ❤️

Delighted that my poem “Eulogy for My Grief Therapist”—yes, the title is deliberately tongue in cheek—is out now in The Quasar Review. Woo hoo!🎉

For everyone else trying to wind down tonight, here are some crows and a seagull outside my window today.

My dog Jordan and I feed the birds each morning—he loves them and they let him get close—and we get crows, pigeons, finches, and seagulls.

I look forward to our a.m. ritual🐦

Happy 75th birthday to Fran Lebowitz, who’s usually right about everything and is equally entertaining when she’s not.💛🎂 Drawing from my collage wall.

My dog Jordan is at the groomer and I’m able to write and eat and listen to the rain w/out interruption.

I miss him🐶

Happy birthday, Carrie Fisher 💙

Postcards from the Edge publicity still on my collage wall.

Need to sign off for the day. Enjoy this gorgeous Linda McCartney photo of Paul McCartney and Willem De Kooning, 1983.

For anyone else who might want to call Mike Johnson’s office to tell him to swear in Adelita Grijalva, here you go. For his DC office: 202-225-2777.

Last week I got to see some nature and it was restorative. One of the things I miss most about being able-bodied is getting from Point A to Point B w/out incurring major symptom exacerbation.

These really are lovely 🌺

Diane Keaton has died.

Literally yelled “NO!!!” at my phone when I read the news and scared my dog.

A great and irreplaceable American artist.

Love to her loved ones 💙

And in non-dystopian news, I was able to get to the Ballard Locks yesterday, which is huge as I can rarely get that far anymore.

One of the most beautiful parks in the city. Enjoyed it so much.

Not seeing it on here yet, but the winners of the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology are three researchers of the human immune system. One of them is from #Seattle.

Maybe—who knows, but maybe—some of their work will help those of us w/ #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis or #LongCovid

They know they’ll never be as smart or as gorgeous as the Obamas.

He’s not a primate—obviously—but in honor of Jane Goodall, here’s my dog Jordan.

He makes living w/ M.E. and cancer still bearable. Together we find a lot of joy❤️

‘Night, all.

Promoting one’s writing in this era feels kinda like standing on a chair at a funeral and asking, “Does everyone think I’m pretty?”

With that in mind, my short story “Deborah’s Done” is in Issue 19 of Last Girls’ Club, $18 for the print edition and $9 for the PDF. Yay!🎉

On Mon, my #UWMed @uwmedicine.bsky.social cardio insisted I go to the ER to have an angiogram.

ER said I’d have to be admitted first.

The whole 2 days I was in the hospital, neither my cardio nor PCP reached out to me or the hospital.

Angiogram performed via my wrist.

This is what it’s like to be #disabled.

Our Cushman & Wakefield bldg mgt sent this out at 9:45am.

W/out warning, we learned we’d have no elevators for 5 hrs.

They know I just went to the ER via ambulance on Monday & that I walk w/ a walker.

They just don’t care.

I have no desire to move on from Robert Redford’s death.

I know he was 89, but if feels cataclysmic💔
September 16, 2025 at 1:14 PM
Just so saddened that Robert Redford has died.

All the President’s Men, The Way We Were, Our Souls at Night, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Barefoot in the Park, Ordinary People, A River Runs Through It, Out of Africa, The Sting, The Candidate…he either starred in or made SO many great films💔

The least shocking news ever is that the killer is a 22 year-old white MAGA guy.

But yesterday the NAACP had to caution students and faculty at HBCUs to stay home b/c of all the death threats they’re getting following Charlie Kirk’s death.

From NAACP’s Insta yesterday:

Thanks, Open Medicine Foundation @openmedf.bsky.social💛

I’m near certain that I’d already signed up to be a research participant, but between 34 yrs of #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis, 9 yrs of #thryoidcancer, & now major heart complications, my medical notes are copious.

Signed up again, just in case.

For International Dog Day:

My magnificent little dudes, Thomas & Jordan!

Thomas (RIP) brought joy to my life as my M.E. worsened & after my best friend died.

Jordan is a ray of light as cancer & radiation complications collide w/ M.E. & wreak havoc.

Extraordinary in countless ways—I’m so lucky❤️

I love Taylor Swift but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say maybe, just maybe, the NYT shouldn’t have sent out her engagement as a fucking Breaking News Alert just now. (No, I didn’t click on the link.)
