I didn't see the film until I was much older, but it struck a deep chord by showing poverty and crime as inseparable, and the ripples of additional violence created by harsh criminal punishment.

It's impossible to pick a favorite track on that perfect album but I prefer the second side which opens with an unbelievable run of Johnny Too Bad by The Slickers, Shanty Town by Desmond Dekker, then Pressure Drop by the Maytals before closing with 3 Jimmy Cliff songs.

The LP was a gatefold with stills from the movie inside. Including (if you squinted) a glimpse of HALF A BOOB.

The Harder They Come soundtrack was the only reggae record in the house when I was growing up and I listened it to death.
