Pedantic nerd in the US South. Likes: Southern Gothic, calligraphy, Calvin and Hobbes, the Episcopal church. Dislikes: people who like “everything except rap and country.” Anti-fascist.
There’s one character whose portrayal enraged me - she’s very queer coded. Upon reread I noticed that she was a British fascist at one point, and that she bears strong resemblance to Nazi women camp guards. That would’ve been more obvious to the original audience.

I guess this is by design, but it’s as if suing for your rights in this climate is more likely to take away the right for everyone.

In my opinion, it’s significant that Lewis wrote this in 1944-45. It’s got a bitter edge that some of us might also have in a few years, if things progress in the same direction.

It’s worth reading if you know going in there’s misogyny and feel able to spit out the bones. There’s a lot of good stuff about being your own person instead of trying to join an Inner ring. It also nails the current tech gang better than anything else I’ve read.

As an ex-evangelical now at one of those horrid liturgical churches - I find the love bombing to be scary, not welcoming.

Seriously! Then you add in wanting to upload their consciousness to computers and that guy taking blood infusions from his son.

I don’t even like That Hideous Strength, but these tech bros keep making it relevant.

The gold standard for how to mix people and muppets is still Muppets Christmas Carol.

Exactly what I needed!

That wretched “do they know it’s Christmas” song is somewhere below F.

It does sound like a pelvic floor exercise routine.

I don’t trust people who wouldn’t eat those out of the can.

Would’st thou like the taste of butter?

In the South we make many mistakes. Food isn’t one of them.

This but the Psalms.

And then there’s deep fried turkey.

As a Christian, I am pleading, can we not play “Wonderful Christmas Time” ever again. Baroque music would be a delightful replacement.

My family always did think Christianity Today was “too liberal” ;

Atlanta has been insane, both for buyers and renters. The only winners were people or companies who buy up tons of properties to rent out at exorbitant price.

This explains so much.

It’s hard to admit you were wrong. It’s much harder if people respond by saying you should have been right to begin with.

As someone who is not only American, but also from the South and Christian…. If leftism meant hating all aspects of impurity I should just walk into the ocean.

As an evangelical I heard many intros about God speaking to them so they changed their sermon, a suspiciously frequent event. I could also do without what the priest heard on NPR.
