Associate Prof of English and Irish Studies. West Virginian. Amateur everything. Be well, everyone.
48 hours later, and no answers, but they’ve ruled out the worst of everything and discharged her. She’s home. Vision is still wonky, eye is still bulging, and my guess is it’s a shingles and/or Bell’s palsy flare up. She may need a neuro-ophthalmologist, a specialist I’ve never heard of before.

24 hours later, another round of MRIs and still no answers. Hopefully the neurologist will have some ideas after reviewing the scans tomorrow. Night #2 in the hospital.

From "The Origins of Totalitarianism" by Hannah Arendt. Thanks to Marc Elias

“Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty.”

Life has been bleak this year, but I saw the Aurora Borealis from my yard twice this week, had a fantastic afternoon with my book club ladies yesterday (A Gentleman in Moscow), and saw this spectacular bird today. We’re having takeout posole from Taco Santo and K made me a margarita. Not a bad week.
