Nine years ago today, I lost my best friend Ginger to suicide. We were friends for 15 years. We were supposed to grow into feisty, cool old ladies together and wear big glasses and bright lipstick, sipping on martinis over lunch.🥀 I'm hanging out with friends tonight to celebrate her memory.

Instead of my next column dropping on Tuesday, it will publish Saturday morning. It's an adaptation of a column I wrote just before my late mother's birthday in July. I thought it apt to revisit it on the one-year anniversary of her death. ❤️‍🩹

Every holiday season since she passed 15 years ago, I unpack my dear grandma’s vintage (hideous) peacock lamp as part of my Christmas decor. I have never had room for a tree, other than a small garland one, so the presents go under the buffet. Behold, the regal Christmas Peacock. 🦚🎄

Had a productive day outside. As per my annual tradition, I shall pour a glass of wine (or four) the Saturday after Thanksgiving and decorate the inside! 🎄

Believe it or not, I have a Substack column coming out Tuesday morning! Does this mean my writer's block is gone? Ish. Anyway, read it when it comes out!

Tonight, I took a steaming, hot shower; jumped into cozy jammies; did a facial treatment; and began drinking wine, so I couldn't go out to grab aurora pics. Here's a shot of my wine glass, lit by my work laptop and a pumpkin candle, though, if you're interested. 🙏

I'm back from a writer’s block break. Well, not really. I still have it, I just also have a column going live on Substack Tuesday morning. You'll see.

Newman Catholic softball beat out Ankeny Christian 2-0, Monday night in Mason City, advancing the Knights to state. (Got the chance to toss on my press badge and flex my photography muscles tonight!)

Some of my family members are liberal, and some are MAGA, so I bought a red, white and blue Willie Nelson shirt to wear to the Fourth of July family reunion in hopes of keeping the peace. 🧔‍♀️🎇🇺🇸☮️

Some personal news, as they say: I have been offered and have accepted my former job back as local news editor at Globe Gazette. My adventure picks back up right where it left off. Just yesterday, I posted on FB how much I missed it there, so I'm so happy to be going home.

I was pretty sure I'd found evidence of a mousey in the house, so I put out a live trap. And look who I caught pink-handed! He's been munching on peanuts and is on his way to be let go at the park. I named him Artemis, and while he sure is a cutie pie, he just can't stay here! 🐭🥰

I saw a Sony Discman out in the wild today. I had no clue people still rocked out to those, but kudos.
