well… i took a leap of faith with my yearly stephen king read… and it didn’t pay off.
cover of stephen king’s ‘duma key.’ 2/5. a modern gothic horror story set in florida in the early aughts. personally, and as someone who isn’t a physical-medium artist but understands all the hidden work that goes into being a musician, i’m tired of non-experts in whatever medium making their characters experts or gifted in said medium. it rang completely hollow to me, stephen king writing about a surrealist painter. also the main character keeps coming back to the fact he would’ve gladly strangled his wife in a fit of rage several times throughout the book? just… weird?? and all the female characters felt like they had some irredeemable characteristic that was labored upon despite them being minor characters? idk the more i think the more i don’t like it lol.

cover of chelsea quinn ybarro’s ‘come twilight,’ a historical fiction vampire story that is in-cred-i-ble if you love history as much as i do and crave a story that’s era accurate from the setting to the dialogue to the politics. so so good, 5/5. cover of imani erriu’s ‘heavenly bodies,’ a greek myth retelling/reimagining fantasy/romance. it was a bit of a fluffy slog to get through at times, but how the ending played out has me intrigued to read more. 4/5.

got a ticket to see “eddington” last night and i can’t stop thinking about it. it’s the first film i’ve watched that’s set during 2020, and i think it’s an excellent portrayal of how untethered and lost people felt at the time. great performances all around, fantastic score.

2025.02.15 look for a friend’s birthday showing of rocky horror picture show—did my best to channel tim curry/dr. frank-n-furter. not bad, if i do say so myself, especially for only getting a reminder about this outing two days ago. and rocky horror picture show is pretty damn good! don’t know why i, a former theatre kid, resisted watching it for so long! and i got to watch it in a small theatre of friendly folks—need to remember to get back to that theatre for more screenings this year. 2025.02.16 selfie post first viewing ever of rocky horror picture show

2025.02.14 has been a rather perfect day
2025.02.14 selfie 2025 valentine’s day dinner—baked potato, rare steak (cooked it to perfection), salad (brussels sprouts, carrot, celery, pumpkin seeds w/ italian dressing), and an odd water. a still of willem defoe and robert pattinson from robert eggers’ ‘the lighthouse’ (2019), which i watched for the very first time tonight. what a… serendipitous choice of a film to watch tonight. absolutely incredible, i can’t remember the last time a movie had my face contorting as often as this one. it honestly might beat out ‘the vvitch’ as my favorite eggers film. 5/5, no notes, can’t wait to watch again.
