Quite a lot of eucalyptus trees were destroyed because of operations (accidents?) of the giant powder company here.

Famous Richmond Red. The Richmond pressed brick company. The brick lane used to be the biggest brick manufacturing operation in the US(?). 7 kilns 40k bricks produced every day here.

Chevron, was part of Standard Oil, established the refinery here in (CHK) 1905?. Before the establishment, Richmond had 200 residents, but the population soared to 20k immediately. Most oil arrives here via tankers. It takes a tanker 2 months to travel here from Saudi.

Red rock island is the only privately owned island in the Bay Area. It’s the point where three counties meet. Woodward tried to live in 1850s and claim residence here under a homelessness claim but was rejected by the govt.

The Whistler mountain was renamed on the whistling sound that the local marmots make. (Weird?) Previously it was called the London mountain, because there’s always a fog haunting this area.

Bears can eat up to 20 hours every day, and then sleep for only 4 hours. During summertime, to prepare for the arrival of babies, female bears need to eat for two so the burden is huge. If there’s not enough fat to feed herself and the babies during hibernation, the pregnancy would self-terminate.

PSA: Bears in B.C.’s bear country could smell food from a mile away. So when you are out camping, it’d be smart to store the food far away from your tent. N.B. try not to smell too good when out in the wild!

British Columbia has over 200 First Nations, spoken among them are more than 40 languages. The biggest indigenous group here is called the Squamish. These tribes here don’t need to migrate to follow their food supplies like those in Manitoba, because of the ample seafood that’s gifted by the ocean.

Jotting down random facts while I’m traveling - There are five and a half time zones in Canada, the 2nd largest country in the world. The world’s longest highway is here. Vancouver is the third busiest port in North America, after Long Beach, CA and New York. Oh - WJB’s son lives in West Vancouver
