If I lived anywhere near you I'd be happy to teach you, sadly I'm not. But if you can find someone willing to use just basic pre-structured decks you'll basically be golden, because that means they definitely care more about you learning lol.

irl standard is as casual as the people playing it with you will want it to be. I'm not even huge into magic, but I have two standard 40 card decks in my bag, and I have used it to teach people to play and play some matches, and that goes over great. Just try to find someone who is chill and willing

Pokemon emerald rogue is fun. I just used a cheat to unlock all features to start so I can choose to start runs with my favorite boy Dedenne. Not sure if you can still do that, but it's really fun nonetheless.

It's probably at least a little exciting to go, "oh, well we did this last time, let's see what we can do now that's a bit new." Especially when you consider how much Penny Arcade's art has changed over the years. (Whereas as Homestar has remained a bit more static in design, with added touches.)

I think it will be better to evaluate the merits when it releases, but honestly I think the changes are an improvement. It can be jarring if you're used to the original, but I imagine the Brothers Chaps probably had input and signed off on this newer interpretation. same for Tycho. As a creative-

Coming from a Strong Bad point of view:
I think this is just a new take on stylizing 2D derived designs for 3D. Strong Bad actually has much more adherence to his design than previously. I've included a couple of shots of recent sbemails that show off his shading that is better captured now.
